Batch Convert Multi-Page PDFs to High Resolution Images

Converting a PDF file to an image file is simple with the Imagemagick convert command.

convert Input_Document.pdf Output_Image.png

where the image file format is determined by the file extension. In addition, a multi-page PDF file will automatically be converted to multiple images with the page number, starting at zero, appended to the filename.

High Resolution Images

By default, conversion is at a resolution of 72 dpi. For higher resolutions, the command option density can be used.

convert -density 300 Input_Document.pdf Output_Image.jpg

will convert the PDF file to JPEG images at a resolution of 300 dpi.

Batch Convert PDF Files to Images

Batch converting several PDF files is easy with the Imagemagick mogrify command. In this case, the image file format is specified by the option format.

mogrify -density 300 -format jpg *.pdf

will convert all PDF files to JPEG images at a resolution of 300 dpi.
