Went for a short walk around Twin Ponds to gauge trail conditions.
Thursday/Friday had a large snowstorm that dumped over 25 cm of fresh snow onto the trails.
Temperature was around freezing this afternoon, but nice and sunny with blue skies.
The good news is that the double tracks and some of the single track trails are ridable for those with fat bikes. There have been plenty of snow mobiles packing down the trails, along with lots of foot traffic from hikers and dog walkers. There have also been a few cross country skiers. The packed snow trails still have 4-6" of loose snow covering them, but it should be manageable with wider tires.
The double track snow trails are nice and wide due to the heavy snow mobile traffic. Probably best to stick to those until the other trails firm up.
The single track snow trails were formed by hikers and cross country skiers. They are about a foot wide.
The snow trails are loose but firming up nicely. Step off of them and your foot will sink more than ankle deep into the snow.
The undisturbed areas are not ridable. With over a foot of snow covering them, it may be a bit much even for a fat bike.
Parking is limited as the lot has not been cleared. Most cars parked on the side of the road, while those with four-wheel-drive drove into the parking lot.
