Went for a quick afternoon bike ride at Puslinch Tract on Christmas Eve!
This time I was better prepared for the trails compared to yesterday.
- Downed trees branches were expected, and a route was formed accordingly
- Bike was equipped with wider knobby tires (2.35" Front, 2.4" Rear)
- Fixed gear ratio of 33:16
Most of the time, focus was on the double track trails. Roughly 90% of the time was biking. The trails were rough and rutty with footsteps. It was like biking a long rock garden.
As for the numerous down tree branches blocking the trails, they were attacked head on with ruthless aggression! Most of time, it was possible to bike through, or to push the branches aside. However, there were a few areas that required walking, as the tree branches were too thick.
On an aside note, a new 40mm stem was purchased to replace an 80mm stem. It was installed and test ridden today. End result was improved steering and better leverage for out of the saddle pedalling. Definitely a good match for single speed and fixed gear mountain biking!
Anyway, have a Merry Christmas!
