It’s spring! Temperatures have warmed up, but there was still plenty of snow on the ground. It was time for a spring afternoon bike ride at Guelph Lake.
Temperature of -7 °C this afternoon. Sky was partially cloudy and bright blue!
Bike was equipped with regular knobby mountain bike tires. That was a mistake as 33% of the trails were covered in ice. Some of it was too slick to walk! Nonetheless, I still cautiously biked over most of the ice. However, studded tires would of been more appropriate.
Both double track and single track trails were in fantastic conditions. It was either hard packed snow or ice. The high trafficked trails tend to be more icy, while the low trafficked trails were bumpier. Plenty of flotation even with tire pressures of 15 psi.
Lots of the snow has melted, but it was still up to a foot deep in some areas. Luckily it was solid and firm. However, look out for hidden debris buried under the snow. Found an abandoned rusty bike buried in the snow.
No mud, though the ground started to become visible in some areas.
It was a great day for biking.
