Strange but true. On Friday (March 21, 2014) morning, browsing the Futureshop flyer, there was a 20% off of electric bikes advertisement. Two things struck me as odd. First, when did Futureshop start selling $2000 bikes? Second, the electric bike looked like a fat bike.
The Surface 604 Element Electric Bike (S604-E-Element) on sale for $1599.99 caught my attention. An electric fat bike with 4” tires advertised for city, trail, sand and snow riding. The electric part was forgettable, but the fat bike part was intriguing.
Searching for Surface 604 revealed their website at http://www.surface604.com. They sell both an electric and non-electric fat bikes. The tires are the low end Innova Spider 26 × 4.0” Steel Bead Tire. Based on the parts and specifications, the bikes are intended for light off-road use. They are more durable than a beach cruiser, but short of off-road mountain bike use.
Nonetheless, it is good to see another fat bike manufacturer. Hopefully they will expand their product line.
The non-electric Element is priced at $999, and the electric Element is $1999.
